Another faggot is caught because of doing something stupid! without the thought of consequences. Sounds familiar …. Yes! I am talking about some rookie who broke into some network and stole some sensitive information. The press is having a feeding frenzy!! and again the term “Hacker” is being used as part of the headlines.

YES ! Anarchia has started hacking articles. but fuck all that! I am going to be talking about who exactly is a Hacker and what it means to be a hacker.

By the way as you have already noticed this article does contain some explicit words so if you are particular about language I suggest you ignore the words and continue reading as this will be an informative page.

what is the deffinition of hacker? Lets look at the famous site, http://www.answers.com (whose current worth is 17.72 million according to another website and the description of answers.com says ‘the ultimate answer engine, with quick accurate dictionary, thesaurus…’)

‘(computer science) A person who uses a computer system without a specific, constructive purpose or without proper authorization.’

and that’s what considered the truth nowdays!!!

lets look at http://www.dictionary.com:

1.	a person or thing that hacks.

2.	Slang. a person who engages in an activity without talent or skill: weekend hackers on the golf course.

3.	Computer Slang. a. a computer enthusiast. b. a microcomputer user who attempts to gain unauthorized access to proprietary computer systems.

Most of the times the definition 3 a is completely ignored thanks to the media and all the people who make it a daily point to misunderstand things, may it be related to them or not.

But fuck all that, We should refer to a more specific dictionary like the Jargon File, which is the most prestigious dictionary on hacker terminology. It says:

‘:hacker: [originally, someone who makes furniture with an axe] n. 1. A person who enjoys exploring the details of programmable systems and how to stretch their capabilities, as opposed to most users, who prefer to learn only the minimum necessary.
2. One who programs enthusiastically (even obsessively) or who enjoys programming rather than just theorizing about programming.
3. A person capable of appreciating {hack value}.
4. A person who is good at programming quickly.
5. An expert at a particular program, or one who frequently does work using it or on it; as in `a UNIX hacker’. (Definitions 1 through 5 are correlated, and people who fit them congregate.)
6. An expert or enthusiast of any kind. One might be an astronomy hacker, for example.
7. One who enjoys the intellectual challenge of creatively overcoming or circumventing limitations.
8. [deprecated] A malicious meddler who tries to discover sensitive information by poking around. Hence `password hacker’, `network hacker’. See {cracker}.’

Basically put guys, A hacker is a person who loves to study things in depth, see the things common people don’t see, use his gifts and his intellects to find new ways of making same ol’ boring things work, a person who thinks outside the box. A person who is not satisfied with his present surrounding/situation. If you see it this way, which I feel is the correct way, then we all hackers. If you use a credit card to open the lock of a door whose keys you forgot, your a hacker! If you use a notepad to draw a line on a sheet of paper because you didnt have a ruler, your a hacker! If you find new ways to make your job or your love life or your career more interesting and more successful then … you guessed it! your a god-damn-HACKER!

Now that image of the scrawny little kid, sitting in front of a computer, typing his ass off, is poof out the window isnt it?!

But yes, you are right if you generally use the word ‘hacker’ and ‘computer’ in the same sentence. Hackers are, and will always be, computer enthusiast. People who spend a lot of time in front of the computer changing things on it. tweaking it here and there, learning lots more than what a normal person knows. why? cause for a hacker. keeping his mind occupied and learning new things (not commonly known to the general public) is of the utmost importance!!!

If a hacker breaks into a network/computer/website, he usually does it not for malicious ends,not to steal some valuable information which is worth a lot in the market, not for rep. but for the challenge! and usually, in most cases, lets the admin know of the vulnerabilities immediately.

A few words on other maters:

Crackers – the term cracker was coined by the Hackers in defense against journalistic misuse of the term hacker. Yes Crackers are the ones who break security on a system for their own selfish reasons

Warez d00dz – this is a sub-culture of crackers. these are the groups who get pirated copies of copyrighted software and if it has protection, break the protection, for the distribution of these softwares Each group wants to be the first to release and distribute any new softwares in the market.

Phreakers – phreakers are those crackers who try to crack the phone networks. Making long distance free calls, breaking into telecommunication networks and other such things are their domain!
