Three types of potentially harmful bacteria can survive for hours on computer keyboards and keyboard covers, warn infection control experts. While the problem is especially important in hospitals and other healthcare settings, the findings may also have health implications for computer users in homes, schools, libraries, and offices.

Disinfecting keyboards is important, but washing your hands after using computers is the best strategy to prevent the spread of germs that cause common colds and flu, as well as the more serious infections that were the focus of the recent study.
