Copy To/Move To Folder

Posted on 03/09/2009 by

How many times have you done this: you want to move a folder from one drive to the other so like a good boy you highlight the icon then press ctrl+X, then you navigate to the destination folder through My Computer or whatever and then you press ctrl+V. phew! Don’t know about you guys but I would deffinately prefer a faster way. So what this tweak does is it adds two new options on your drop down menu, one being Copy To Folder and the other is Move To Folder

This is again a useful hack people so listen closely 🙂

NOTE: if you havent already, then read the precautions here

  • Same ol’, same ol’: launch regedit. dont know how? read my previous post here
  • From the left hand panel, navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AllFilesystemObjects\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\
  • Make a new key on the left hand panel. Name that Copy To
  • Now in the right hand panel, you will see a REG_SZ called default. Set it’s value to {C2FBB630-2971-11d1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}. Guys, the curly brackets is a must. So do include that!
  • Now there is nothing except closing regedit and using this new feature

but there is a bonus hack as well. You can even make a Move to option on your drop down menu for that:

  • Navigate to the same folder. Make another new key but name this Move To instead.
  • On the right hand panel, change the value of the default to C2FBB631 and not C2FBB630
    • So the whole value will be:  {C2FBB631-2971-11d1-A18C-00C04FD75D13}

That’s it. You are done. Just enjoy your new Copy To/Move To folder option. Oh n ya.. here is a screen print to help you out:

Enjoy Guys
